VOD On…

newteevee has a story about 2008 being the year of VOD:

‘For all of you too lazy to drive to the video store or too impatient to wait for your DVDs in the mail, 2008 is shaping up to be a banner year for you. The video-on-demand (VOD) space is heating up, which means you have one less reason to pry yourself off the couch.’

Now I don’t know what a banner year is, but I hope it means someone will be kind enough to make me a banner that I can stick in my window, perhaps VOD could make it himself?

What it and the Wall Street Journal article it references don’t mention is the opportunity to release a film in the cinema and online simultaneously, let me choose to watch it as nature intended on the big screen with my atomized nachos and flat coke or stream it to my HD Louginema (Lounge crossed with Cinema).

Point in fact Iron Man. I’m not going to make it to multiplex because:

I have a small child, which means we gotta pay the babysitter
My wife will make me go and see Sex & The City if I make her see Iron Man
It’s not supposed to be very good
I always have a Nandos after the movie but a Nandos has just opened at the bottom of my road, so I can get my processed chicken fix locally
I don’t want to be stabbed in the car park, to avoid this I will have to dress in a hoodie, so I blend in which means I look like a 33 year old man in a hoodie so people will fear me, perhaps even my wife
The car smells of marmite cheese

But, if I could watch it on my laptop on my way to Barcelona, then, I’d pay £8, sit in the first 3 aisles on Sleazy Jet, order one of the limited bacon baps (hence the need to secure a seat in first 3 aisles) and ponder how Paltrow’s short skirt has weaved it’s marketing magic upon my sponge like brain.

“When you can sell movies to people how they want them, when they want them, it opens the door for us to take more chances,” says Mr. Cuban.

VOD On people…
