Gondry’s Fantasy Razr
(via Motionographer)
‘Michel Gondry’s imaginative new film for Motorola attempts to incorporate the functions of the RAZR2 into the fantasy world he has created. Gondry mentioned that this was a particularly difficult shoot, because all of the scene transformations were done mechanically and in-camera (which is not unusual for him, however he pointed out that he doesn’t think he has done it before at this level).’
The microsite uses papervison3D and I suspect we’re going to see a lot more of this floating visual interface style over the coming months. As a marketing site, it’s effective, we’re not confronted with ‘must buy Razr now!’, instead subtle sub-nav text draws us away from the site to buy a phone - but as an overall user experience watching and interacting with it is kinda like taking novocaine, it leaves me numb and wondering when it’ll wear off.I just embedded the video direct from the microsite at hi-res (neat simple viral idea), yet when I check out the posting there’s no video nav, I can’t pause it, I can’t stop it, it just plays, so I deleted it and embedded it from You Tube. Is that supposed to trick us? In a You Tube world, not seeking to at least replicate You Tube’s functionality is stupid. I as the prosumer want to control the interaction. As only a demi-nerd with a moustache can be, I’m mad at them for this no-nav sleight of hand.
