Lost in Translation: Benny Lava
For your Friday reading pleasure, Tamil filtered through the warped minds of data inputers.
More recently the same video has been accredited to Wal-Mart, though the ‘the prices are low and so are our wages’ subtitle is enlightening. The original video was posted on You Tube a year ago. It’s intriguing to follow its transition and translation over that period. I found it via the Digg front page just now, cropping up on another video sharing site. It’s aggregate viewings give it true superviral status. Over zealous Diggers noted it’s appearance on Digg a year after it’s original posting and duly ruminated on that fact that Digg is eating itself alive.
Interviewed for Guardian Unlimited yesterday Digg co-founder Jay Adelson hinted that Digg may open up it’s api further to allow third party users to copy it’s social aggregation model. Given Digg already has a host of niche clones created using the open source platform Pligg, we can only hope this happens sooner rather than later, especially seeing at Digg’s rivals, Reddit, StumbleUpon and Newsvine have all been acquired recently.
